4 stars! This is another KJ Charles winner for me. I adore her writing and can never get enough of her books. Every time I pick one up, I devour it and am left wanting more. A Seditious Affair was no different.
I was a little nervous starting this. Knowing who this book was about and meeting them in the first book, A Fashionable Indulgence, left me wondering how they could possibly work as a proper couple and not leave me wanting to tear my hair out. Surprisingly, these two worked incredibly well together and they weren’t exactly what I was expecting.
I love Silas. Have done since the first book, if I’m honest. He’s a radical Bookseller, a seditionist, who isn’t afraid to stand up and fight for what he believes in. All of that makes it impossible for me not to love him. Add in the hard time he ends up having in this book, which I won’t spoil, and he is easily one of my favorite characters in this series.
Dominic was a bit harder for me. Some of his actions in the book annoyed me and left me frustrated and wanting to hit him, especially toward the end of the book. But I did love him in the end.
The first few chapters overlap with the timeline of the first book, which I appreciated because there were things that we didn’t get to see, for obvious reasons, in the first book that I desperately wanted to see.
Silas and Dom were a lot sweeter as a couple than I expected them to be. Yes, they were into rougher, dirtier sex. I was expecting and excited for that. But I wasn’t expecting to think of them as being lovely together, which they were, in my opinion. There were moments that before I read this book I never expected to happen. Softer, more tender moments.
I liked most of the secondary characters in this. Loved catching up with Harry and Julius and really enjoyed seeing more of Ash. I really need to read the short story in this series because I would love more of Ash.
The ending of this is a HEA. And it was a nice one. However, I’m not completely sold on it. I think, after everything they had been through, the ending felt a tiny bit disappointing. It’s going to be interesting in the third and final book, to see how Silas is coping with all the changes in his world.
If you’re a fan of the first book in the series or if you’re simply a KJ Charles fan, this is definitely a book you should read. It has her amazing writing and addictive storytelling that I lap up. And if you’re a fan of historical romances that feel realistic, I would definitely recommend this series.
